Only three suppliers worldwide earned the Global Contribution Awards, which are among Toyota’s annual "Grand Awards." The Global Contribution Award represents one of the automaker’s highest supplier honors. Johnson Controls was the only supplier of vehicle interior products – and the only U.S. company – to gain top recognition this year.
Toyota suppliers that have international business relationships with the automaker are eligible for Global Contribution Awards. Those considered for top honors must provide Toyota with consistent value, perform in an outstanding fashion, and fully comply with the automaker’s purchasing policies and other key standards throughout the year.
Stephen Roell, chairman and chief executive officer for Johnson Controls, accepted the 2008 Global Contribution Award from Toyota Chairman Fujio Cho.
"This is an important honor from one of the world’s premier automotive companies, and we would like to thank Toyota for recognizing the contributions that our employees make towards its success," said Roell. "In addition, I would like to salute and thank the Johnson Controls team for its outstanding performance. We are strongly committed to continuing our long and successful partnership with Toyota that began in 1984.
"At Johnson Controls locations throughout the world, our people contributed to this outstanding achievement, and they take great pride in working every day to provide world-class products for Toyota vehicles," he said. "This prestigious honor rewards the efforts of our team and our supply base that supports and adds real value to Toyota operations worldwide."
Johnson Controls provides automotive seating, interior trim, electronic components and batteries for a variety of Toyota models manufactured in North America, Europe, South America, Japan and Southeast Asia. 2009 marks the 25th year that Johnson Controls has been doing business with Toyota.
